But Where Should You Buy It?

The 8BitDo Ultimate 3E Controller for Xbox has launched in the UK and Europe, supporting Xbox consoles, Windows PCs and compatible mobile devices.

But where should you buy it? Our preference would be Amazon UK, thanks to its faster advertised delivery and familiar returns process, although ordering directly from 8BitDo's international eShop could save approximately £24.

Premium hardware beyond Xbox

Despite its Xbox-focused branding, the Ultimate 3E supports Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PCs, Android devices and Apple's ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro.

At the heart of the controller are TMR (tunnelling magnetoresistance) joysticks, paired with a 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC).

These use magnetic sensing to detect movement rather than the contact-based mechanism found in traditional potentiometer sticks.

The controller also features Hall-effect triggers with two selectable stops, two programmable rear buttons, additional L4 and R4 shoulder bumpers, and RGB lighting around the thumbsticks.

Customisation extends to interchangeable parts. Players can swap between silicone and micro-switch ABXY button modules, choose between standard and circular D-pads, and change thumbstick shapes and heights using the included accessories.

Other features include customisable controller profiles, a 3.5mm audio jack, a wireless charging dock and a travel case. 8BitDo advertises up to 18 hours of battery life, although we haven't independently tested that figure.

Not every feature works on Xbox

This is one of the most important details for potential buyers.

On Xbox consoles and Windows PCs, the Ultimate 3E supports 2.4GHz wireless connectivity or a wired USB connection. Compatible Android and Apple devices use Bluetooth.

However, two of its headline features are exclusive to PC:

  • Up to 1,000Hz polling rate: Available on PC through wired USB or 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, rather than Xbox consoles.

  • Six-axis motion controls: Supported on PC when using 2.4GHz wireless mode, but not on Xbox.

Both are prominently advertised features, so Xbox buyers should understand that they won't receive the full advertised functionality on their console.

Although the controller supports Bluetooth, 8BitDo does not list PlayStation or Nintendo Switch compatibility for this model, so support for those systems should not be assumed.

UK pricing: Amazon versus the official eShop

Here's where our investigation became particularly interesting.

Game Outlet Europe's September pre-order announcement originally listed a UK recommended price of £119.99, while its October retail-launch announcement on 23 October 2026 quoted £124.99.

However, when we followed 8BitDo's official UK Amazon link on 25 October, the controller was listed for £139.99, with free standard delivery advertised.

We then investigated 8BitDo's international eShop, taking an order through to the payment screen without completing a purchase.

The controller was priced at US$149.99, with an additional US$5 for YunExpress delivery to the UK.

That brought the displayed checkout total to US$154.99 — approximately £116 at the exchange rate we checked.

On paper, that's a potential saving of around £24 compared with Amazon UK. However, currency conversion fees and any additional import-related charges could affect the final amount.

We couldn't establish why the distributor's recommended prices differed from the live retail prices.

Delivery, returns and peace of mind

There is more to consider than the price alone.

8BitDo's international shipping guidance estimates delivery normally takes 15–20 working days, although some orders could take four to six weeks.

Amazon UK, meanwhile, was advertising substantially faster delivery when we checked, with free standard delivery shown even without signing into an Amazon Prime account.

Returns are another consideration, particularly when buying premium gaming hardware.

8BitDo publishes a refund policy covering eligible returns within 30 days. The company states that it covers return shipping for product defects confirmed by its technicians, while buyers generally pay return postage for non-fault returns.

The policy also places responsibility for loss or damage during return shipping on the customer.

Its publicly displayed refund, shipping and other policy pages carry update dates from 2022. That doesn't automatically mean the policies are outdated or invalid, but we couldn't establish where UK customers would need to send a faulty controller or how long an international replacement might take.

Further instructions may be supplied through customer support, but we haven't independently verified those arrangements.

Our verdict: We'd choose Amazon.

Although ordering directly through 8BitDo's international eShop appears to offer a potential saving of around £24, we'd personally favour buying through Amazon UK.

For us, faster delivery and a familiar returns process would justify paying a little more, especially for a premium controller where after-sales convenience matters.

That doesn't mean buying directly from 8BitDo is unsafe or that its customer service is unreliable.

A direct order could arrive without any issues, and the saving may be worthwhile for buyers comfortable with longer international delivery times.

Ultimately, both routes are available. The choice comes down to whether you prioritise the potential saving or the convenience of purchasing through Amazon.

As for the Ultimate 3E itself, its TMR joysticks, Hall-effect triggers, customisation options and extensive PC support make it an interesting controller on paper.

Whether those features justify its premium price will require hands-on testing.

Ultimately, both routes are available.

The choice comes down to whether you prioritise the potential saving or the convenience of purchasing through Amazon.

As for the Ultimate 3E itself, its TMR joysticks, Hall-effect triggers, customisation options and broad device compatibility make it an interesting addition to the premium controller market.

There's certainly plenty on offer, particularly for PC players who can take advantage of features unavailable on Xbox.

For us, Amazon UK would be the preferred place to buy it.

But whichever route you choose, the real question is whether the Ultimate 3E can deliver on its impressive specifications and justify its premium price.

That's something we'd be interested in finding out if we get the opportunity to put it through its paces.
